Yes! We’ve booked our 2014 holiday. We shalst be basking in the fabulousness that is Sri Lanka! We literally cannot wait. The Lonely Planet guidebook has been purchased and liberally leafed through and I’m waiting for a lazy Saturday so I can make myself a huge mug of tea, sit in my comfy reading chair and devour the guide in it’s entirety.

We will be staying at The Fortress. We stumbled across this hotel almost by accident.  Back at the start of the year when I was looking for alternatives to the cruise (that cost almost the same) I looked at Sri Lanka and was blown away by the olde world charm, mixed with a huge dose of opulency which The Fortress offered. Hubby and I tend to fall in love with hotels like this and once we’ve found one we like the look of nothing else will measure up. So Sri Lanka and The Fortress it was!

We checked out Kuoni for prices first of all. We had been on our Honeymoon with them and they’d been good. The fact that they had upgraded us to all-inclusive during the resort portion of our Honeymoon helped too. We weren’t too fussed about when we went, so long as it was at the start of 2014. I got prices for virtually every week from the start of January until the end of March. The cheapest I could get was £3,446.

Upon recommendation of my sister-in-law I then called Trailfinders to see if they could do it any cheaper. Not only could they, but their customer service was out of this world. The guy at the other end of the phone took the time to talk about the holiday. He had been to Sri Lanka before and only had good things to say about it. The cost would be £3166. That’s almost £300 cheaper! Not only that, they also talked us through flight times, booking alternative flights so that we wouldn’t have to get up in the middle of the night to make the grim return trip to Blighty. Then, as if things couldn’t get any better, they managed to knock an additional £40 off the cost when it came to booking, as they were able to deduct some flight supplement costs. Woo hoo!

Now we just need to grab those holiday essentials before the shops stop stocking them!

Have you booked your 2014 break? Where are you jetting off to?
