Everyone loves a ‘what’s in my bag’, right? I know I do. It’s an opportunity to have a good old snoop! And what I’m giving you here, isn’t just any old snoop. Oh no! This is a snoop into my carry on luggage, so not only do you get a good nosey, but you might also pick up some tips for stuff to take in your own hand luggage. You might. You might, of course, also wonder why I insist on taking so much c*ap. Either way, I hope you enjoy…
When we travelled to Madrid last year I learned an important lesson. Always be prepared. And always pack a spare change of clothes in case your luggage doesn’t turn up on the same day you do. So here are my ‘in case of emergency’ garments for Sri Lanka.
When we arrive in Sri Lanka we will have been travelling for approximately sixteen and a half hours. To say I’ll be a hot mess would be an understatement. I’ll be packing a fresh T-shirt to change into just before we land and this nice scarf to jazz things up a bit so I look half decent during our transfer and when we arrive at our hotel.
Slightly random combination of items on this photo… flight socks as I have cr*p circulation, prescription sunnies for safe keeping and a tote bag that will double up as my beach bag as it’s always handy to have an extra bag in case I buy lots of stuff at the airport. Oh hello there duty free! Oh and earphones too so I can listen to my music.
This is a poor photo, but this is basically all of the ‘liquids’ I’ll be taking o the plane. So…. a REN Vita Mineral Day Cream moisturiser, 2 x L’Oreal Revitalift BB Cream samples (in case I want some coverage on my face when I arrive), L’Occitane hand cream in Cherry Blossom (this was also a free sample), Soap and Glory Hand Maid Hand Cleansing Gel, Caudalie Beauty Elixr to refresh my skin in-flight, Body Shop Born Lippy Stick Lip Balm in Plum (also a freebie), a toothbrush and a mini toothpaste for pre-arrival refreshment (and so we don’t make our transfer driver pass out with our bottom-of-a-hamster-cage-breath).
Baby wipes for an in-flight ‘festival wash’, jogging bottoms so I can cosy up on the flight and try to get some kip and my glasses case so I can take my glasses off and keep them somewhere safe whilst I’m kipping.
My passport and relevant documentation – ’cause I ain’t gonna get very far without it!
I’ll fill this tiny shoulder bag with anything I need to get my hands-on quickly and then pop it into my hand luggage. Then I can empty the contents and use it as a small day/evening bag when I arrive.
In flight reading material. My Lonely Planet guide to Sri Lanka and The First Phone Call From Heaven by Mitch Albom.
Pens, er, for writing stuff. I will also take a notebook and my camera, but they haven’t made their way into my bag just yet.
Ear plugs (to block out the noise on the plane so I can (hopefully) sleep), a nail file, my purse, some painkillers, a small mirror, some hair bands and kirby grips, a teeny make-up bag containing tissues, my phone, a mini Tangle Teezer and a pantyliner (for freshness).
